Like many sports entities, the UFC took notice of “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” and the increased engagement the Netflix series created for Formula 1 Racing. As similar installments of the documentary series began to materialize for other sports (like “Full Swing” for the PGA and “Break Point” for Tennis), the UFC remained interested in a version that could highlight the stories of its business. So, in 2022, we got to work on developing the concept and commenced a robust sales effort later that year.
By early 2023, Roku ordered 3 episodes of “Fight Inc: Inside the UFC” and we hit the ground running. I scaled up with additional crew and we not only began filming across the globe, but also behind the scenes with UFC President Dana White. Much of our behind-the-scenes content capture included highly sensitive material that needed to be treated securely, and that careful attention to confidentiality remained a fixture of our overall approach.
Over the course of 2023, we engaged the wider production department to create many versions of the episodes, worked closely with UFC & Roku executive teams to fine tune them, and delivered for air on The Roku Channel in 2024. In addition to working from an executive level on the project, I traveled the country to develop a rapport & conduct shoots with featured athletes & UFC media members, and supervised post production, all while fulfilling my duties as Showrunner for the “UFC Countdown” series on ESPN.
